What does BP do?

Basic Progress is an intentional spiritual environment for personal development. It contains all the elements of the popular twelve step programs and more. Basic Progress is the ultimate self help program designed to assist the participants become the best they can be. Throughout the course, the BP students will undergo an intense self-examination and participate in activities designed to facilitate healthy relationships in all walks of life. The last half of the curriculum is an objective study of World Religions and the Christian Faith. Full commitment to this process will guarantee a significant degree of wellness and a sense of fulfillment.

Although the absence of God in an individual's life is nonspecific, it is obvious. The aimless meandering of a self-serving individual can best be described as an ongoing attempt to stop it, fill it, avoid it, kill it, or deny it. The ability to stop the insanity of folly, to bring a purpose to life, and to show an individual how to 'become' content is in demand. The Basic Progress workbooks and curriculum give structure to group discussion guarding against frivolous banter or overzealous agendas. The class environment often contains a broad range of human emotion and experience: confrontational tension, heated debate, spontaneous wonder, belated grief, outrageous laughter and intense devotion. Over time, the class becomes a community of faith with an interpersonal bond that has sustained some for years beyond the initial experience.

The essence of the Basic Progress is 'heart' surgery --it is designed to produce a new attitude, create a radically different perspective, and ultimately, to harness and redirect one's personality to a life of forgiveness, grace, prayer, humility and faith. The BP experience is an intense progression of lecture, discussion, activities, lessons, disciplines, and exercises that serve to guide the participant's personal growth to a mature and stable relationship with God. As they contend with their course assignments, the level of spiritual insight and understanding increases, which in turn, prepares them for the next session. In other words, we reveal spiritual truth in progressive stages.

Basic Progress consists of multiple phases with follow-up exercises and assignments reduced to simple baby steps in character development. The first phase, Encounter, is designed to assist the student in documenting priorities and analyzing existing views of God. It includes goal setting, prioritizing activities, a thorough self-examination, and an analysis of relationships. The second phase, Quest, includes an overview of World religions and serves as an introduction to Christianity. It is during this phase that they are challenged to accept Christ. The last phase, Dialogues, is a ninety day guided encounter with fellow travellers that teaches the language of biblical prayer, songs of worship, words from early Christians and daily chapter readings from the New Testament. Weekly sessions provide long term stability as each in the discussion group encourage and support one another.

This project has been defined by the search for the most effective means of introducing curious seekers to the core truths of life. In curriculum development, I have endeavored to remove complexity, triviality and froth from the process of basic spiritual progress. Basic Progress Coaches mentor people with a specific curriculum designed to address the contemporary cultural milieu using time tested spiritual truths, including personality assessment, self-examination, confession, amends, forgiveness and stewardship. An intentional spiritual environment for personal development, Basic Progress is more than counseling but less than parenting. Our primary purpose is to assist people in a long-term reorganization of hopes, dreams, goals and relationships.

What BP does is introduce people to their Creator; the Creator provides wisdom, resource and blessing to people and in turn, they become givers, not takers, and provide nurturing and healing in places and relationships they formerly aggravated. In so doing, we give parents back to children, restore passion in marriages and promote positive employees in the workplace. You don't have to take my word for it, register for the next session and find out for yourself. You won't be able to explain it either!
